FAQs

How long does it take you to make my order?
It normally takes 1-2 weeks for us to make your order as every item is handmade from scratch.  In busy periods (such as Christmas) our timescales will extend, if this is the case we will ensure there is a visible announcement on our home page.

How long does shipping take? And what do you charge?
All parcels are sent by Royal Mail.  For UK orders we use  either First or Second Class Signed For, depending on the method you choose at checkout.

Outside of the U.K. we use Royal Mail International Standard for parcels costing up to £20 and International Tracked and Signed for higher value items.  Both methods take 5-10 working days but can take longer if the parcel is held up at customs.

Tracking will be provided for every parcel.

How do I know what size harness to buy for my dog?

We know it's tempting to guess your dog's size or to base it on a different harness brand you already have.  As all brands differ the best (and only) way to get the right size is to measure your dog.  All you need to do is take two simple measurements, these are - their neck and chest. Take a look at our handy video!

Neck - you need to measure where you want the harness to sit, this is normally lower than where they'd wear a collar.

Chest - measure behind their front legs at the widest part of their body. The chest strap on harnesses is adjustable so you don't need to worry too much about getting this spot on.

Then have a look at our size charts - there's one in the photos of every listing and choose a size. If your dog is between sizes just drop us a note, as every harness is made to order it's easy to adjust the sizes.

My dog is smaller/larger than your sizes, can you help?
Yes, we have a 2XS and 2XL size - these are available on request. The reason for this is that the 2XS size doesn't work with some of the bigger prints - so we like to advise customers on their choice of print. The 2XL may require bigger fixings depending on how strong and heavy your dog is - so we prefer to talk to customers about their dog's needs rather than offer something generic.

Can you make something even bigger to fit my dog?
Unfortunately we don't make harnesses for larger dogs.  This is because our main priority is safety and our products aren't suitable for very strong big breeds (such as Great Danes, Bernese Mountain dogs etc.

If the harness doesn't fit what do I do?
We are happy for you to return items to us for a refund (see our returns policy). We don't offer exchanges as we can't guarantee to have stocks as many of our fabrics are limited edition.

However, we'd rather help you get it right first time and the only way we can do this is if you measure your dog. If you're not what to do then get in touch with us so we can help advise you.

My dog doesn't seem to like wearing a harness, what can I do?
Sometimes wearing a harness or collar can feel strange to a dog. It can also be scary for some dogs to put a harness over their heads. Try to get your dog used to putting the harness on and wearing it in the house before going out. You can also use treats and rewards to praise your dog for putting the harness on. Soon enough it will become their favourite game!

My dog pulls when walked, are these harnesses suitable for him?
Although we've tested SidneyandBetty harnesses on walks (and believe us Betty has put them through their paces) and we check each one before dispatch, we don't recommend them for big dogs who pull hard on their lead.

Please use your judgement when walking near cars, roads and traffic as we cannot be held responsible for any incidents that may occur.

Please check your harness regularly for signs of wear and tear, and do not use if damaged.

Why are some of your products more expensive than others?
We take pride in our craftsmanship and the materials we use. We specialise in high quality tweeds and designer fabric. Some of these materials are more expensive to purchase than others.

Sometimes we have to waste material to make sure you get the best placement of print on the harness.

We also use high quality heavy duty contoured buckles and fixings because we want our products to be as strong and well made as possible.

We take time and care to make sure every stitch is right. We don't use glue or other shortcuts, we aim to sew to perfection :)

How do I care for your products?
All of our harnesses and accessories can be hand washed and should be dried flat. We have been known on occasion to throw them in the machine on a gentle cycle - no more than 20c and no spin.
